They are the northern lights...I can't explain it well so..the basic definition is..that northern lights..

Colored and white flashing lights in the atmosphere north of the Arctic Circle. The lights are the result of the ionization of atmospheric molecules, at low temperatures, by solar and cosmic radiation.

Does it really look like that?  Or is that just from the photography?  I have heard of Northern Lights, but of course I am too far south to have ever seen them.

well rays of lights, yes..sometimes they are red, or a brighter green..sometimes the colors are more vibrant..sometimes..they are soft..this is actually a pretty bad example..but i like how it has the city below it..

google northern lights....thats how the lights really look.

The city is the selling point for me, too.  I'm really a city girl.  I love city skylines.  But then when nature intervenes, it is fabulous.  Your city is just so different from mine.  I would probably pick out the strangest details to obsess on.

i just noticed this photo earlier today. great pic and minneapolis is a cool town but what prompts my comment is that i just saw this on yahoo-
