Wow, I can't believe that Christmas and New Years blew by so damn fast. I really, really don't want to go back to work on Monday. I almost feel like I should be looking for another job. I dunno though, I only have a few more months before I graduate (and maybe leave the country) anyway.

Anyway, Andres had a really good time in Colorado. He'd never been out west before, so my parents and I had a great time showing him the mountains. We went up to Red Rocks, Boulder, Lyons, and Estes Park. He also got to meet a bunch of my dad's side of the family. They all really liked him. And his cooking, haha. My parents also got him a bunch of gifts to make sure that he didn't feel left out on Christmas day- a few nice shirts, a tie, a knife, and some other stuff. I got him West Side Story and a sweater. I got a metric fuck ton of books, which is really awesome. My parents managed to find this book about hominid evolution that's got three or four specimins from every hominid species from the pre-australopithecines (from about 4 million years ago) to Homo sapiens (ending with Cro-Mag and Kow Swamp). Oh my god, it's massive and beautiful and I'm already like 50 pages in. I got another one called Bones, which is about the Clovis People and the population of the New World. Oh and I got a new coat, which I REALLY needed. It's nice and toasty. And yay, new phone!! I also got my Secret Satan gift from the lovely, hugely talented when we got back on Monday:

It's the cutest hat I've ever seen, and it's going to be so warm this winter! You can't really tell in this pic, but the ears also have little rhinestones on them

New Years was pretty low-key overall. Andres and I went out for crab legs with some of his friends and then to a party at my friend Jason's place. It was kind of strange, cuz there were lots of gamers there who not only don't drink, but who really look down on people who do, and a bunch of people (especially this one girl) who were WAYYYY too drunk by 10 and who were OLD ENOUGH TO KNOW BETTER, which is probably the most annoying category of drunks. We ended up leaving at like 12.30 to go have some NYE alone time

Oh! I got a 3.8 gpa this semester- four As and an AB. Yay! I totally rocked all my anthro classes.

Today the plan is to read and work on my application for the teaching English in Chile program, and I'm going to make dinner for us later. Tonight Andres wants to make a cake, so we'll probably go over to his place since my oven sucks ass. I'll shower and read some more while he cooks. So I should probably get started on all that. I'm going to try to have all the written stuff done for this application by Sunday evening. Hopefully I'll have the motivation haha.

Peace!

Oh, I'm sure that with the will you seem to have (from reading your previous journals), you'll continue to do just fine.

Thank you It also helps that my boy spends a lot of time studying, too haha. He has this uncanny ability to convince me to spend Friday and Saturday nights at the library

Congrats on the 3.8 too!

Also...I  had fun at dinner!  Sorry if I was out of it... I'm a nervous wreck driving in Denver, lol.  I totally scared the hell out of Kacey on the way home too, it was great.

Sounds like the holidays were a good one for you guys.  Good to hear you managed to have a fairly unstressful one.  I'm sure it was much needed with all the other stress school gives you.

sounds like a lovely time!  Nice hat, btw!  I love how excited you get about hominids.  I love throwing down the odd comment about australopithecines.  I'm sure you are aware, but did you ever stop to think about how difficult it is to throw australopithicus into a sentence NOT about human evolution?

You know, I'm totally going to have to work on slipping australopithecine references into normal conversations next semester. To non-anthro friends. Who will have no idea what I'm talking about

I also used to throw down random anthro lingo in songs or the odd one liner ~ "Move a little faster Ergaster.."
