i hate that it has come to this, but i'm considering Vista on the next windows computer i get.

the main reason is because of gaming. to get access to all the neat bells and whistles i'll have to use vista so that the games and video card can use all the new neat APIs for DirectX 10

i've been reading since SP1 has come out for vista that stability and such has improved. anyone out there using vista can offer some insight to this?

i really don't want to get vista but i figure I had better jump in now than hang on till the end.

thoughts?

I think I'm one of a very small group who likes my Vista . . . it reminds me of my Mac maybe that's why.

I'll agree, I've found Vista MUCH more stable than XP ever was. I can usually go several weeks of Vista uptime, whereas with XP even basic functionality like putting a laptop to sleep would make it blue screen. (The main issues I have had with Vista have all been related to some Java updates and now with AVG 8.0.)

Especially if you're getting a whole new system, I see no reason not to go with Vista.

would VISTA make my computer (Intel Celeron 1.46 GHZ "Craptop" with 1 GIG of ram) faster or just slow it down even more? .......

Is that a dual core machine? I think if so, and you add in another gig of ram, it'd probably run okay. If it's not dual core, or you can't add any more ram, I imagine that'd probably just make it a lot slower.

Another good rule of thumb is that the longer you've been using a machine, the more likely you are to have some piece of hardware or software that doesn't work right in Vista. It's much better now than when it first launched, but there are still some weird incompatibilities out there. I'm only using it on the newer machine that I got last spring.

it's not a dual core... and i think i can have up to 2 gigs of ram... it says on a sticker: "designed for windows xp" then underneath "windows vista capable" hahaha

I have Vista on my mac. Vista is retarded. Seriously, windows 98 is better. Every once in a while, when I need to fire up vista I just think "wow, people use this shit."?

You're out of my league then. I've been thinking of setting up an XP/Red Hat duel (intentional spelling) boot for years and haven't the faintest idea how to go about that. I've done an ME/XP dual boot before.... I was really bored. But not knowing anything at all about Vista, I'm not sure if the set up would be the same.

setting up dual boot wth vista and xp is easy, but i wouldnt bother. I ran a dual boot when I first installed vista and after a week removed XP.

Dont believe all of the FUD you hear about Vista, it's a solid OS and it isnt going anywhere
