I know alot of people who love Chuck P. (I can't spell!) books, but I've read a few and just wasn't as impressed with them as everyone else seems to be.
Maybe I just have the wrong attitude but everytime I read one of those books I wonder if the reason he wrote it was to get a reaction. Like all the violence and all the twists are just a shallow ploy meant to get people to read his books because they're "edgy" and "not for the faint of heart".
Pretty much they all strike me as nothing more than a horror movie with gratuitous sex and violence. Sex and gore sells, why not in books as well?
Now don't get me wrong, I'm not criticizing the people who like his books. Maybe I just don't get it or something, but I have read three of his books, so I'm not sitting here saying I don't like them and haven't ever read any of them. I've read Choke, Invisible Monsters, and Fight Club, and all seemed to be to be the same thing. I was bored by it.

Right now, I am reading
"Big Fish" by Daniel Wallace..
I think it is better than the movie, which is saying a lot because the movie was really good. |

Uggghhh I couldn't finish Big Fish. I think it is the first book you have ever suggested to me that I have not liked.
The things they carry was awesome though. Highly recommend it.
I am currently reading Dime Store Magic by Kelly Armstrong. Pretty good if you like modern fantasy. |

To The Lighthouse, Virginia Woolf
I have been at the halfway point for weeks. I have a bad habit of doing that. I get to a stopping point in a book and move on to other things then later run across the book again and realize, "oh shit, I guess I should see how that ends."
I just saw the book sitting on the shelf with a bookmark sticking out of the middle of it.
eta:As it stands now I was loving the writing and characters.

OK. Finished it. Definitely worth reading. It's odd...and I don't know if I read this somewhere once before or if I came up with this all on my own...Woolf can mix words into whole pictures in one's mind in a very similar way that impressionists mixed light and color...or that's how it stands in my mind. Her writing is very satisfying to read and to finish and think back on. I'll probably look into reading something else of hers.
(Woolf is my wife's favorite author and I had only ever read excerpts from Woolf's books in various classes until this book)
