Similiar to the "movies you just watched" thread..just tell us what you are reading, give us a little summary of the book (without letting major plots out) and the title of the author..this way...we can get an idea of books that sound interesting to all of us.

Right now I am reading "the things they carried" by tim o'brien

I personally love it, and I am glad that i purchased it.

The back cover reads:

'They carried malaria tablets, love letters, z8-pound mine detectors, dope, illustrated bibles, each other. And if they made it home alive, they carried unrelenting images of a nightmarish war that history is only beginning to absorb. Since its first publication, The Things They Carried has become an unparalleled Vietnam testament, a classic work of American literature, and a profound study of men at war that illuminates the capacity, and the limits, of the human heart and soul"

I recommend it.

Eat Mor Chikin: Inspire More People - S. Truett Cathy

I'm a big fan of the chick-fil-a business model, and the ability of a giant business to operate with integrity. Nothing is more impressive than a company giving up millions of dollars a week just to have all it's units closed on Sunday. My family moved to America because of people like this.

The Art of Happiness.

It's not something I would usually buy or read but...I'm becoming bitter so why not? It actually has some really good points in it however, I'm on of those people who really believes that someone can only really change if they either REALLY want it for personal reasons and are completely open to it, or they hit rock bottom in one way or another and HAVE to change.

The book is well written and presented well though. Even if you don't buy into everything in it, it'll make you think and re-evaluate.

Right now Im torwords the very ending chapters of

HAUNTED BY: Chuck Palahniuk

Dont make any assumptions on crazy ghost stories this book is NOTHING but what you expect of it truly one of the most sickest piece of literature you could ever find in your life... im SO not kidding.

The book starts right off about a person who likes pleasing themselfs with the holes of the pool that bring in more water.. when his ass gets stuck to the wrong one while his intentines surely but slowly start being sucked out of him through his ass while he describes a very in detail disgustinly horrorfying description of how it felt to chew through his own intestines.

THIS BOOK IS NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART.

however if you enjoy Chuck palahniuk writting style ( l.E CHOKE, FIGHT CLUB) then you'd surely enjoy this book.

**OFFICIAL DESCRIPTION OF THE BOOK**

"HAUNTED is a novel made up of stories: twenty-three of them, to be precise. Twenty-three of the most horrifying, hilarious, mind-blowing, stomach-churning tales you'll ever encounter—sometimes all at once. They are told by people who have answered an ad headlined "Artists' Retreat: Abandon Your Life for Three Months" and who are led to believe that here they will leave behind all the distractions of "real life" that are keeping them from creating the masterpiece that is in them. But "here" turns out to be a cavernous and ornate old theater where they are utterly isolated from the outside world—and where heat and power and, most important, food are in increasingly short supply. And the more desperate the circumstances become, the more desperate the stories they tell—and the more devious their machinations become to make themselves the hero of the inevitable play/movie/nonfiction blockbuster that will certainly be made from their plight"

I just finished The Kitchen Gods Wife by Amy Tan and am starting The One Hundred Secret Senses by her. It's very humerous so far. I've loved her writing since I watched the movie Joy Luck Club and went out to buy the book.

Choke was favorite Palahnuik as well.

I am currently reading 'Aesthetics' by Adorno.
Adorno is part of the Frankfurt school of Critical Theory. Aesthetics is hi major work on the subject.
It takes concentration but it's fascinating!

Madness and Civilization by Michael Foucault.

It gives an analysis of the history of madness, its social implications, and what makes a person "mad".
Plus, pretty poetic language.
