My favorite authors are the ones I grew up with -- Bradbury, Vonnegut, Bach. J.K. Rowling...I'm obsessed with Harry Potter. James Frey, Palahniuk, Orson Scott Card, David Sedaris, Augusten Burroughs...I read anything I can get my hands on. It helps that I grew up with a librarian for a mom :D

I am Sedaris' #1 fan, he never fails to crack me up! Otherwise I like Amy Tan, Chomsky, Howard Zinn, Che Guevara, Po Bronson for a little inspiration, Orwell, Dickens, Austen etc etc etc I could read forever!

So, I know we have a spot for our favorite books etc in our profile, but It hought maybe we could start a little thread about the books/authors/genres that we like.

Im really getting into the HDF arena right now, I really enjoy reading material by Poppy Z. Brite (we named our puppy after her), Kathe Koja, and Caitlin R. Kiernan.

Im currently reading both Interview with a vampire (Ive never read the vampire chronicles), and "Murder of Angels" by Caitlin R Kiernan.

Depending on my mood dependson what I pick up.
I have tried twice and failed to completely read "House of Leaves", but one of these days I will complete it.

I know we have several writers on the site, so what do you like to read, who is on your current read list, what genre do you write in?

Kurt Vonnegut is amazing! He's funny as hell. I love that crazy old man.

Cat's Cradle - Ice 9, The End of the World, and the Role Hoosiers play in it.

too many to list but if anyone is interested see my page under books. Some of my tops are Susan Straight's Highwire Moon, Peter Orner's Ester Stories, Junot Diaz's Drown. Just to name a few.

If I had to pick one, Player Piano. God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater and Breakfast of Champions are at the top, too.

Heh heh Matthew Reily ... some good fantastical holiday reading there ... the scarecrow is more bulletproof than james bond ever was. Fun reads though.

I love Barker, but have not been reading any of his new stuff. Is it worth checking out? Imagica and Weaveworld are fucking amazing.

Funny story, I almost ran over him once. A friend and I were going to a signing of his and it was raining kinda hard. Some guy dashed out in front of my car to cross the street and it was Clive! Sure glad I didn't hit him.

The best book lately would be Haruki Murakami's Kafka on the Shore. It is really amazing and not a bad intro to his work. His work is kind of a strange magical realism with it's own internal logic. I very much recommend it.

I'm really big into Edward Rutherfurd right now. His books are based on the history of various places (Russia and London, plus more), but with fictional characters. I'm currently reading "London", which goes through the history of London all the way back to pre-Roman times. His books are fairly long- London is over 1100 pages- but once you get reading, its hard to put the book down.
