THERE I SAID IT, QUENTIN TARANTINO IS AN ARROGANT, OVERRATED DOUCHEBAG WHO IS SO FULL OF HIMSELF THAT HE HAS TO HAVE ROLES IN HIS OWN FILMS. AND THE ONLY REASON THE KILL BILL FILMS ARE ANY GOOD IS BECAUSE HE RIPPED OFF THE DIRECTING STYLES FROM OTHER FILMS HE LIKED.

I AGREE with Sarin! Sorry, "quotes" aren't working for me.

I can't buy that. The guy wrote four of the best dialogue driven movies that I've seen in a long time (Reservoir Dogs, True Romance, Natural Born Killers, and Pulp Fiction). The directing in Pulp Fiction and Jackie Brown is outstanding. I certainly have no problem with him being in some of his own films, why not? Besides, If I could put myself into the dead nigger storage scene, I certainly would have.

Oh yeah, he was outstanding in the Muppet WIzard of Oz

"The path of the righteous man and defender is beset on all sides by the iniquity of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he, who in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper, and the finder of lost children. And I will execute great vengeance upon them with furious anger, who poison and destroy my brothers; and they shall know that I am Chiba the Bodyguard when I shall lay my vengeance upon them."
- from the title crawl of Karate Kiba starring Sonny Chiba (aka The Bodyguard)

And Reservoir Dogs? You mean City on Fire? I know, let's take Abre los ojos and call it Vanilla Sky, but we won't bother giving any credit when they start handing out the awards.

So if by "wrote four of the best dialogue driven movies" that you've seen in a long time, you actually meant to say, "blatantly plagiarized the screenplays and scenes for those movies"... then I fully agree with you.

Even Kill Bill Vol 1, which I do like, has an entire scene completely ripped off from another movie I love, Samurai Fiction.

I don't know if it's more irritating that he's importing Asian films to the US for his whole "Quentin Tarantino Presents" production shit. Except that half of those films were ALREADY in the US. I'd seen Iron Monkey years before he slapped his name on it.

Quentin Tarantino is a college student cutting and pasting from Wikipedia. Not a cinematic genius.

So... I cannot argue with your points here, Sarin. It's all true. But yet... I still enjoy his films. I guess I view it as entertaining synthesis.

But he *is* a jackass for treating Roger Avery so poorly, IMO.

It's not like this was original to Karate Kiba. Have no opinion on the others but I can't buy that Tarantino is ripping off someone when he has a character quote a passage from the Bible, merely because it was also quoted in another film.

Ezekiel 25:17 reads thus: "And I will execute great vengeance upon them with furious rebukes; and they shall know that I am the LORD, when I shall lay my vengeance upon them."
That is ALL it says.

It's one damn big coincidence if he just HAPPENED to cut and paste the other bits from throughout the Bible to match what is quoted in the Sonny Chiba movies.

I always understood that this was well known and that he was doing this as a tribute to (and as a kind of satire of) these films. At least, that's what I got from the reviews I read.

I don't know... he has a fantastic way of blurring the line between tribute and plagiarism, don't you think?

Let's see how many people I can piss off with this one. Oh and *Spoliers* below, if you haven't seen ("Pulp Fiction" or "Raising Arizona").

For years now I'd heard praise for "The Boondock Saints." Trouble was, I'd already seen it…

-The priest's use of Kitty Genovese to justify the Saints vigilantism? Done by Alan Moore in "Watchmen." Rorschach uses Kitty Genovese to justify his vigilantism

-The overlapping timelines with agent Smecker in the action as he describes the fight between the Saints and Il Duce? Done in "Lone Star" to jump back and forth between the stories of father and son sheriffs.

-The cat's accidental shooting? Done in "Pulp Fiction;" Vincent's accidental splattering of Marvin all over the car when they hit a bump.

-The standoff between Connor (Murphy? Who could tell them apart, they we so underdeveloped?) and Rocco as Agent Smecker is giving confession? Done in John Woo's "The Killer" when Ah Jong and Inspector Li Ying hold guns on each other while Jennie (who is blind) has a conversation with the two, unaware of the standoff.

-The silent, malevolent Il Duce turning out to be the Saint's father? Done in "Raising Arizona." Bounty hunter Leonard Smalls turns out to be Hi's father.

I can understand if you haven't seen these other movies that "Boondock Saints" would be pretty exciting, but it also suffers from lazy writing:

-The Saints, hanging upside-down from the ceiling, can spin around and accurately shoot nine armed men but the two of them AND Rocco manage only to graze Il Duce? What!?

-Agent Smecker, describing the Saint's coming in from the ceiling as "You only see that on TV!" Yeah, because it's unrealistic… which is fine, but why mention it, you're only drawing attention to the disbelief we should be suspending.

-Why is the IRISH father of the Saints referred to as "Il Duce," the ITALIAN name for Benito Mussolini? Was the writer afraid we were going guess that he was their father if he was given an Irish name and ruin a high-improbably surprise?

-The Mafia can get dangerous psychos paroled at will? Huh?

-Who the hell is going to fall for Willem Defoe in a dress?

All in all, I don't understand the hype. Well, I do but it was all for other movies.

Oooo, I must disagree here. I like Signs; Run, Lola, Run; and Bridge to Terabithia.

I can see where ppl liked all of them except bridge to Terebithia.. I was severely disappointed in that flick! I guess I had higher hopes for it.. Why did you like that one?

I guess it could have been better, especially since the book is a favorite of mine, but I still liked it over all. What I didn't like is how they promoted it, as if it was some fantasy adventure like The Chronicles of Narnia. It is about a friendship between a boy and a girl. Did they think people wouldn't see it if they showed it for what it really was? That really ticked me off, and I wasn't the only one.

And thats mostly why I didn't like it.. Because I never read the book and so when I say it coming out I thought it was a movie like Narnia and all those types of fantasy things.. Then to sit and watch a movie about how its just them playing make believe... Yea I was mad.
