I have decided, for various reasons, to remove the home-made tattoo I have on my inner thigh, it's only a small and pretty faint tattoo. I'm just not sure of the best way to go about this. Does anyone here have experience with tattoo removal? I heard of this stuff called "wreaking balm" on the radio that is supposed to remove tattoos, but from what I read on their website (http://www.wreckingbalm.com/) it just seems like and in-home dermal abrasion kit, which I could get cheaper somewhere else.

I hear that Saliva is acidic, if it's on your inner thigh, I could attempt to find out whether or not a tattoo can be licked off...

Tattoo removal is a loooooong way from being worthwhile for the most part. Everything I've read and heard suggests that the most those creams will ever do is slightly fade the ink and most don't do anything at all. Even laser removal is far from a real remedy at this point even though it costs a mint and if not done perfectly, leaves scars, not to mention being incredibly painful by most reports.
Is it in a spot you'd want to have a good tattoo? If so, I would recommend getting a good artist to do a cover up that you'll be happy with. Covering a tattoo you don't want is a much better (read that as : easier, cheaper, and safer) solution than removal, but if you don't want anything there then it's obviously not the solution for you.
Tattoo removal is a growing industry, but along with that comes a lot of scam bullshit, which is where the vast majority of these creams and such things can be categorized. If you're dead set on getting rid of it for good, I would say your best bet is to start saving money and find a good laser removal person with lots of references. One thing you have on your side, at least from your description of this tattoo, is that it's already faint and since it's home-made I would assume it's black ink. Black ink seems to have the best results with laser removal because the laser doesn't pass through it and can concentrate on it much easier than other colors.
Whatever you end up doing, good luck.

Covering it really isn't an option, I don't want anything in that area, at least for now. And laser removal is way out of my price range. I've read mixed things about those creams. I think a large part of it really depends on your skin type, the ink used, and how far the ink is in the skin. Since I did mine myself I don't think the ink is very far in the skin, so one of those acid peels might work. Either way it's a gamble.

I know a few friends who tried the creams and got either no results or extremely minimal results.

The guy who is tattooing my forearm has had laser surgery done on his neck and arms, and he's had like 3 or 4 hits on each part and it looks pretty faded; but he's going for coverup, not total removal.

well i work at a tattoo shop and i have been tattooing for about a year now. from what i've seen and heard home done tattoos are fairly easy to remove with laser treatments since the ink is often times not deposited as deep into the dermis as a professionally done tattoo is. just don't go into the removal process with hopes that no traces of the tattoo will be visible. i have seen scaring as a result as well. as for those creams and gels i honestly don't think they're worth your money as ink is deposited into a somewhat permanent layer of your skin. the only thing those creams and dermabrasion kit would remove is the top layer of dead skin cells. that's just my opinion but the best thing to do is to ask your dematologist. hope this helps you!

My friend did the laser removal, she had to go through 3 or 4 painful sessions, it scarred and is just gray now. It is still very visible.. I hope whatever you choose works out well for you good luck gorgeous!

I *heard* from a fairly junior tattoo artist (please dont blame me if this is wrong.... just ask a reputable ink-slinger) that you can use the tattoo machine to remove indian ink/homemade tattoos by just tattooing sterile water over it.

I would at least check it out... although it sounds a bit *too* easy?

Laser is not always expensive and does not always scar. We do removal in our tattoo shop and for a small tattoo $50 a pass med $150 , however hospitals and surgeons are expensive. It does hurt but it does not hurt as bad as what you would expect. Yes it does hurt worse than a tattoo, it kind of feels like someone taking a rubber band and snapping it on you're skin consistently. But It doesn't leave a scar and you're skin looks normal again after a few passes.

Lazer tattoo removal. Painful as fuck but you should let a pro do it a a medi-spa or a plastic surgeons office. www.bluespa.com Numbing cream works wonders.

You can always be super hardcore and use one of these to remove tattoos (I'm being silly, just had to do it)

You could probably have it taken care of with just a couple of laser sessions.
